Turtle Art Rocks Chapin: A Community Art Project Bringing Vibrant Turtles to Life

Chapin, SC – The Town of Chapin and the Crooked Creek Art League (CCAL) are teaming up to bring an exciting public art project to life: Turtle Art Rocks Chapin. This collaborative endeavor promises to infuse even more color and creativity into Chapin’s vibrant arts scene and the surrounding Lake Murray communities.

The project will showcase 15 beautifully designed and crafted fiberglass turtles, each created by local artists to reflect the native wildlife of the Lake Murray area. These turtles are not only artistic masterpieces but also part of a larger community event that includes a scavenger hunt and an auction. The anticipation is building as the project’s culmination approaches at the 2024 Chapin Labor Day Festival.

Discover the Turtles: Scavenger Hunt and Auction

The public art display will take place across various sponsoring businesses in Chapin, where the turtles will be stationed for a Scavenger Hunt from July 2 through August 31. Residents and visitors alike are invited to explore the town, find all the turtles, and complete the scavenger hunt for a chance to win a prize.

On September 2, during the Chapin Labor Day Festival, these artful turtles will be sold via a silent auction. Even if you cannot attend in person, you can still place bids on these unique pieces of art. Proceeds from the auction will benefit both the artists and future community art projects organized by CCAL, ensuring the continuation of such enriching events.

Engage with the Community

Turtle Art Rocks Chapin is more than just a public art project; it’s an opportunity for community engagement and celebration of the local arts scene. During the Labor Day Festival, CCAL will have a booth in downtown Chapin where visitors can find more information about the project and participate in fun activities. The public is encouraged to get involved by:

  • Completing the Scavenger Hunt: Participants who find all the turtles and complete the hunt will be entered into a prize drawing.
  • Voting for a People’s Choice Winner: Visitors can vote for their favorite turtle.
  • Bidding in the Silent Auction: Own a piece of this unique community art project by placing a bid on one of the turtles.

Support and Sponsorship

The project has received generous grant funding from the Central Carolina Community Foundation and the South Carolina Arts Commission. This support, along with contributions from the local business community, has been crucial in bringing Turtle Art Rocks Chapin to fruition.

CCAL is actively seeking additional sponsorship and prize donations from local businesses to enhance the scavenger hunt and promote the ongoing partnership between the arts and the community. This project represents a significant opportunity to foster positive public exposure for Chapin while supporting local artists.
