IRMO – Chapin High School senior Emma Smoak has been named the South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) Class 5A Division II Cheerleader of the Year.
“I am truly honored and humbled to receive the SC Cheerleader of the Year award,” Smoak said. “This recognition is not just a reflection of my efforts, but also of the talented 23 other athletes and the community that has supported me every step of the way. After six years with Chapin Varsity, I’ve had the privilege of cheering alongside the best of the best. Holding this award, alongside several of my past teammates, is a true honor. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to inspire others, just as the past Cheerleaders of the Year have inspired me.”
Smoak’s cheerleading journey began 13 years ago when she served as the Chapin team mascot. She has since dedicated six years to the Chapin Varsity Cheerleading squad, where she held the position of captain this year. Under her leadership, the team captured its 18th state championship at the SCHSL Class 5A Division II State Championship on November 23, 2024, at the Colonial Life Arena.
“I never doubted through her leadership, Emma would lead the team to another State Title,” said Chapin Varsity Cheer Head Coach Vicki Williams. “Emma is a role model for her peers and an outstanding athlete. We know Emma will continue to pursue her life goals through her outstanding leadership and character.”
Chapin High School Principal Ed Davis added, “The Chapin High family is so proud of Emma! She is a phenomenal athlete and an even better student. She represents everything it means to be a Chapin Eagle!”
