Chapin/Newberry Post 193/24 looked to pull the first-round upset over defending S.C. American Legion Senior champion Florence Post 1.
It opened the game with a 1-0 lead in Game One in Florence on an RBI single by Kaedyn Harris. Florence responded with four runs in the Bottom 1st, three on a bases-clearing triple by Newt Hinson.
Post 1 led 5-1 in the Top 5th when Landen Wicker hit an RBI double for Chapin/Newberry. Florence stretched its lead to 6-2 before Post 193/24 rallied for three runs in the Top 6th.
Chapin/Newberry was retired in order in the seventh inning to lose 6-5.
Florence took control of Game Two at Newberry College. A 2-run homer by Avery Weaver in the Top 1st set the tone as he finished with seven RBI to help Florence take a 20-0 lead through four innings.
Jackson Phipps helped Chapin/Newberry avoid a shutout with an RBI double. Post 193/24 ended up losing 20-1 in five innings to end their season at 7-10.
