Alumni Night to feature auction of “Hooties” jerseys

By Thomas Grant Jr.

A return of past players as part of a worthy cause is scheduled Friday at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

The annual Alumni Game between the current Lexington County Blowfish and former team members will take place. The event is part of the fourth annual “Hooties” night in which the Blowfish will wear for one night only red, white and blue Hootie jerseys.

This event was selected as the 2025 Coastal Plain League Promotion of the Year and has raised close to $48,000 for the Lexington Medical Center Foundation.

There’s currently an online auction for the jerseys at www.blowfishbaseball.com that will run through 9 p.m. Friday. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Lexington Health Foundation’s Partners Program.

In addition, event partner the Hootie and the Blowfish Foundation are expected to match the raised funds.

Following the game, the Blowfish will hold their “Fireworks in the Sky”.

SEASON UPDATE

Losses in four of the last five games have the Blowfish in the middle of the CPL West Division standings after 13 games.

Last Saturday, Lexington County snapped a 3-game losing streak with a 15-8 victory at the Macon Bacon. An 11-run fourth inning that included a 3-run homer by Mason Holton gave the Blowfish a 12-0 lead.

Lexington County returned home this past Monday to face West Division front-runner Asheboro. It was the same night the Class 5A Division II champion Chapin baseball team was recognized and Lexington graduate Brandon Cromer Jr. of the University of South Carolina pitched another scoreless opening inning.

Despite getting a solo home run from Carter Blankinship, Lexington County fell 5-4 to the Zookeepers to drop to 6-7 on the season.
