Chapin looks to capitalize on homefield

By Thomas Grant Jr.

The Chapin baseball team is in the driver’s seat for the Class 5A Division II District Four title.

Wins over Conway (11-3) last Saturday and North Myrtle Beach (9-1) on Monday have the Eagles playing host to the district final Friday. They would need just one win over the team out of the loser’s bracket to advance to the Lower State playoffs.

Against the Tigers last Saturday, Caden Guy had three hits and three RBI. He came within a triple of reaching the cycle as he singled, hit a 3-run homer and added a double.

On Monday, Luke Cramer provided the offense with two home runs and Kaedyn Harris had three RBI. On the mound, Mac Berry struck out eight batters in 4 1/3 innings and Cooper Derrick fanned three in 2 1/3 hitless innings.

SOCCER

Both Chapin teams have the playoff road conceivably paved in its favor.

Upcoming teams in the quarterfinal and possibly Lower State finals of Class 5A Division II would have to visit Cecil Woolbright Field.

It’s true in the case of the Lady Eagles. A home win Tuesday over West Florence would set up a Friday matchup against either Lucy Beckham or St. James for a state title berth.

The Chapin boys played host to Waccamaw Wednesday in the third round. Should the Eagles win, it could either play host to St. James or travel to top seed Myrtle Beach Saturday.

SOFTBALL

The 2026 season ended Friday with 3-0 loss at North Myrtle Beach. The Lady Eagles finished with a 11-16 record.
