For many years (decades), we have heard that machines will take over jobs for repetitive tasks, and I have seen robots for assembly lines that do what a human can do, but much faster.
Is the machine better than a human? Yes, but just for that task. The robot is programmed for a very specific task. One example is that I observed separated parts coming down a conveyor belt based on size and shape, which is a very simple task, and the robot just had to match the pattern it sees on its camera to an image loaded in its memory. Robots have been used in the automotive industry for decades to weld car frames in tight tolerances, but these are very specific tasks.
AI is software that learns by gathering more information than we could imagine and putting it together. You may have heard of ChatGPT, which writes about anything you want. You give the software some basic parameters then it writes what you want by pulling information from the internet and then writing a response to what you want. A friend of mine helps people write government grants. The typical grant would take him four to five hours. He has done this many times, which is pretty quick for grant writing. He recently began using ChatGPT and is down to 15-20 minutes.
If you have to write many briefs or articles, then this will be a huge time saver. If you are a contract writer, then you need to embrace this technology yesterday. As more companies move to this technology the need to contract writers will dwindle, but using this technology will help you set yourself apart in your field and begin to grow the number of clients because you will be able to do so much more in the same amount of time.
But I’m not a writer. ChatGPT can be used in marketing, sales, technical writing, and the list is always expanding. ChatGPT is just the tip of the iceberg. Google, Microsoft, IBM, and all the large technology companies are working to gain an edge in AI.
As AI becomes more mature and mainstream, we will begin to see more and more white-collar jobs moved to AI. Our next article will delve into more of the why and how. Check out our YouTube channel as we post weekly videos covering this article and go more in-depth.
