Chapin wrester Preston White completed a career “three-peat” this past Saturday at the S.C. High School League Class 5A individual wrestling championships in Florence.
The Eagle standout won his third straight Class 5A title at 120 lbs. He dethroned defending state champion Gunner Musilunas of Myrtle Beach by technical fall (16-1).
“In over 40 years of coaching, I have never seen or coached a more dominant high school wrestler,” Chapin head coach Ken Wilson said. “Preston has won three state titles and only given up one escape point in all those matches.
“This season, Preston is undefeated and has only given up a few escape points. One of his earlier wins this year was against a four-time South Carolina state champion (Richard Springs of Fort Dorchester), who won his fourth title in the weight class (126 lbs.) above Preston’s weight class last weekend. Preston was able to hold him to only two escape points and defeat him earlier in the season when they wrestled.”
Chapin teammate Lake Newman (175 lbs.) and Grace Jumper (135) in the girls’ division both finished in fourth place.
