Lily Reed Black hit three birdies in her final round to win the S.C. High School League Class 5A
Division II championship Tuesday at Smithfields Country Club in Easley.
Reed Black broke out of a 3-way tie on Day One to edge out Conway’s Reese Richardson.
Teammate Mia Andrade placed ninth to earn All-State honors.
The duo helped Chapin rally from a three-hole deficit on Day 2 to T.L. Hanna after leading by 10
strokes on Day 1 to force a playoff. A 2-stroke penalty on the Lady Eagles for hitting the wrong
ball enabled the Lady Yellow Jackets to win its first state title.
This marked the fourth straight year Chapin had finished a state runner-up. This was the first
year of two divisions for Class 5A.
In Division I, Dorman shot a 319 to hold an 11-stroke lead over Carolina Forest after Day One
on Tuesday at the Columbia Country Club in Blythewood. River Bluff (333) and Lexington (336)
stood in third and fourth place, respectively.
Defending 2-time Class 5A champion Caroline Hawkins had a 2-stroke lead.
