Two Lexington-Richland School District Five students have earned awards from the Midlands Education and Business Alliance (MEBA). Senior Eleanor Prosser has been selected as the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Technology Champion of the Year for the Midlands. Veronica Cain has been named the Midlands Work-Based Learning (WBL) Student of the Year.
The Midlands Work-Based Learning Student of the Year award recognizes a student who exemplifies sound work-based practices while applying academia to real-life, real-work, and real-world situations in the business/industry environment.
Cain is a student in the Veterinary Science program at the Center for Advanced Technical Studies (The Center). She interned throughout the school year at Dutch Fork Animal Hospital. She plans to attend the University of Findlay to major in Animal Sciences Pre-Veterinary. She hopes to become not just a veterinarian but an American Veterinary Medical Association board-certified in small animal surgery and exotic animals as well.
“I am honored to be named the 2023 WBL Student of the Year for the Midlands, as it is an acknowledgment of the hard work I have put into my time at the Center for Advanced Technical Studies, and also my dedication as an intern through the Veterinary Sciences and Technology program,” Cain said. “This program has helped me get not just my foot in the door of the veterinary field, but has sent me many steps ahead into my future career as a veterinarian.”
Prosser is a student in the Veterinary Science program at The Center. She plans to attend Clemson University Honors College to double major in Animal Sciences and physics. After Clemson, she hopes to attend veterinary school.
“I am extremely grateful to be selected for this award,” Prosser said. “It feels very rewarding to be recognized for the effort and time I’ve spent learning at The Center. Thank you to everyone who provided the abundant opportunities and support that have helped lead me here. I will ensure that this scholarship and all the skills I’ve learned at the Center will not go to waste, but help further my future career goals as I strive to become a successful veterinarian.”
The 2023 South Carolina Technology Champions are a select group of students who were identified by the South Carolina Department of Education Office of Career and Technology and the state’s Regional Career Specialists as the top career and technology education student in each of the 12 Regional areas. The award-winning youth are designated as “Technology Champions,” and will be recognized at the annual Education and Business Summit in June. Prosser and the other winners receive a $250 award for continuing their education and a plaque of recognition.

We are excited to see what the future holds for these rising stars,”
This is the third year in a row that a student from The Center has won the Career and Technical Education Technology Champion award.
