Two Lexington-Richland School District Five Students Awarded National Merit Scholarships

Lexington-Richland School District Five is proud to announce that two of its outstanding students, Andrew Farmer and Kathryn Stover from Chapin High School, have been selected as winners of the prestigious National Merit $2,500 Scholarships.

These awards were part of the second round of National Merit Scholarship announcements. The National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners are chosen based on their exceptional accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Recipients are able to utilize their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university of their choice.

The National Merit Scholarship Program began in October 2022 when high school juniors took the PSAT/NMSQT. The highest-scoring participants in each state, representing less than one percent of the nation’s high school seniors, were named Semifinalists on a state-representational basis. Over 15,000 students advanced to the Finalist level of the competition from the Semifinalist group, meeting very high academic standards and other requirements.

By the conclusion of the 2024 program, more than 6,870 Finalists will have earned the prestigious “Merit Scholar” title and received a total of nearly $26 million in college scholarships.

District Five extends its heartfelt congratulations to Andrew Farmer and Kathryn Stover for their outstanding achievements and wishes them continued success in their academic endeavors.
