In South Carolina, one in nine children will face the heartbreaking loss of a parent or sibling by the age of 18. To help children navigate this difficult journey, Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Midlands is offering the Healing Hearts Grief Program, designed for children ages 5 to 18 who are coping with the death of a loved one.
The program provides a supportive environment where children can connect with peers experiencing similar losses, allowing them to express their emotions safely and comfortably. Through therapeutic activities, participants receive the tools and resources necessary to process their grief and develop healthy coping skills.
The Healing Hearts program consists of four classes, each focusing on a different aspect of grief, including emotions, memories, coping strategies, and the changes that come with loss. Concurrently, parents and caregivers attend their own classes, covering the same topics to ensure that grief work can continue at home.
All classes are free, and dinner is provided. They are held at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Midlands, located at 7 Richland Medical Park Drive. Dinner begins at 5:30 pm, followed by classes from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
Upcoming Class Dates:
- Thursday, August 29
- Thursday, September 26
- Thursday, October 24
- Thursday, November 21
