District Five breaks ground on new administrative building

Facility will centralize district staff and support professional development

School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties broke ground Oct. 8 on a new district office and administrative and professional development building in Irmo.

The facility will be built next to the district’s current office on Dutch Fork Road. It will provide a centralized location for district employees, professional development, collaboration and family engagement.

Once completed, the building will bring district office staff together under one roof, consolidating employees who are currently housed at schools throughout the district.

“We are a school district that believes in supporting its teachers and having a space that shows we support those who support the teachers,” said Superintendent Dr. Akil E. Ross Sr.

“Today represents our community saying, ‘We see you, we value you, and we’re going to give you a great space to work to help our students feel loved in our schools and grow in our schools.’”

The project is funded through the 2024 Bond Referendum, approved by voters to support the school district.

Construction is expected to be completed in January 2029.
