District Five Beta Club Members Shine in Statewide Competition

The National Beta members from Chapin High School and Dutch Fork High School are celebrating remarkable successes at the South Carolina Senior Division Beta State Convention held in Myrtle Beach.

The Beta State Convention provides students with opportunities to compete in various academic and STEM-based, virtual, and performing arts competitions. These achievements at the state level qualify the winners to compete at the national level, with the National Convention scheduled to take place at the Savannah International Convention Center in Savannah, GA during Summer 2024.

The following District Five students were announced as winners in various competitions:

Agriscience 11th Grade

  • 2nd Place: Olivia Meihofer (Dutch Fork High)

Biomedical Health Science 11th Grade

  • 1st Place: Aamina Azhar (Dutch Fork High)

Biomedical Health Science 10th Grade

  • 1st Place: Maraki Tadesse (Dutch Fork High)

2-Dimensional Digital Arts

  • 2nd Place: Allie Wetmore (Chapin High)

Language Arts 11th Grade

  • 1st Place: Leo Sun (Dutch Fork High)

Math 12th Grade

  • 1st Place: Andy Yang (Dutch Fork High)

Math 11th Grade

  • 2nd Place: Jennifer Liu (Dutch Fork High)

Science 12th Grade

  • 3rd Place: Seigo Maeda (Dutch Fork High)

Science 11th Grade

  • 1st Place: Ashley Shin (Dutch Fork High)

Science 10th Grade

  • 2nd Place: Thomas McKinney (Dutch Fork High)

Social Studies 10th Grade

  • 1st Place: Daniel Leuthner-Barrineau (Dutch Fork High)

Onsite Painting Division I

  • 3rd Place: Maraki Tadesse (Dutch Fork High)

Onsite Drawing Division II

Jewelry Division II

Two Dimensional Design Senior Division

Digitally Enhanced Photography Division II

  • 2nd Place: Ashley Shin (Dutch Fork High)

Quiz Bowl Oral

  • 3rd Place: Andy Yang, Daniel Leuthener-Barrineau, Maraki Tadesse, and Jon Horrigan (Dutch Fork High)

Chapin High School students Allie Wetmore, Rya Zheng, and Ella Carson also participated in a Marketing and Communications pitch, and Ella Carson completed an academic test for Language Arts and Service learning.

Ellen Smith, Chapin Beta Club sponsor, expressed her pride, stating, “I am proud of our Chapin High School Beta club members for representing our club with respect and pride at the SC State Beta conference. These students are some of the shining stars of Chapin academics, and their hard work at this conference, and all year, should not be overlooked or underappreciated.”
