Chapin golfer Chase Cline won the South Carolina Golf Association’s 66th annual Junior Championship held June 11-13 at the Woodcreek Club in Elgin.
He had a 3-day score of 3-under-par 213 to beat out Coleman Ferguson of Columbia and Bennett Scaletta of Belton each by one stroke.
“I hit it well pretty much the whole day,” said Cline, who’s headed to Western Carolina this fall. “I stayed patient and knew when to capitalize and that is what I did.”
In addition to the state championship, Cline received an invitation to play in the U.S. Junior Amateur later this summer at Oakland Hills Country Club.
This was the first time South Carolina sent its state champion rather than the winner of an 18-hole qualifying round to the national championship.
