Despite having literal “dark clouds” hovering nearly every game this season, the Chapin football team continues to win games.
Friday’s home game against Spring Valley was postponed after a storm of lightning swooped through Cecil Woolbright Field. It was pushed back to Saturday morning with the Eagles posting a 23-0 shutout.
Charlie Howell rushed for 164 yards and a touchdown and Harper Ellerbe rushed for 84 yards and two scores.
This was the fourth straight win for Chapin (4-1), the team’s longest streak since the 2024 season.
The Eagles will head to Gilbert America for its final non-region matchup. This is the first matchup between the two Lexington County schools since 2009 and Chapin has won all six meetings.
They face an Indians’ team with a 3-1 record coming off a 41-6 rout of Batesburg-Leesville.

Chapin volleyball against Lexington
The Lady Eagles dropped their Region 3-5A opener in three sets to Lexington on Sept. 15. The scores were 25-15, 25-18, 25-19.
