Chapin Police Arrest Suspect in Weekend Stabbing Incident

CHAPIN, SC — The Chapin Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with an attempted murder following a stabbing incident over the weekend. Jacob Adam Riddle, a resident of Newberry County, was arrested at his home in Little Mountain with the assistance of the Newberry County Sheriff’s Department and has been booked into the Lexington County Detention Center.

On October 27, 2024, around 2:00 a.m., Chapin Police responded to a reported stabbing at the Tipsy Toad Tavern, located at 103 Beaufort Street in Chapin. According to witness statements and evidence gathered at the scene, Riddle was identified as the assailant. He allegedly stabbed the victim in the back, prompting another individual to intervene. During the altercation, this bystander was also injured by the knife. Following the incident, Riddle fled the scene in a vehicle.

The victim was transported to Lexington Medical Center for emergency treatment of non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the attack.

Riddle now faces charges of Attempted Murder, Assault and Battery in the 2nd Degree, and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime. The Chapin Police Department commended the swift coordination with the Newberry County Sheriff’s Department in safely bringing the suspect into custody.
