Chapin golf places 2nd in State

By Thomas Grant Jr.

The Chapin golf team looked to claim its first state title in program history.

Instead, it was déjà vu for the Lady Eagles. For the second straight year, it finished behind defending
champion Dorman for the second straight year in the Class 5A tournament completed Tuesday at Mid-
Carolina Country Club in Prosperity.

Chapin’s two-day score of +69 was four strokes behind state champion Dorman. Former 14-time state
champion Lexington (+92) finished third, followed by River Bluff (+105) in fourth place.

Lily Reed Black finished third behind repeat state champion Dorman and teammate Mia Andrade was
fifth to earn All-State honors.

River Bluff’s Caitlyn Gaines (tied/6th) and Lexington’s Taryn Smoak (tied/9th)
also made All-State.
