Chapin, SC – Chapin Elementary School is stepping up its commitment to improving the environment and community through an exciting new initiative led by the Eaglets Making Impact Club. Spearheaded by teachers Ms. Layton and Mrs. Werts, the club has teamed up with NexTrex for a school-wide recycling challenge aimed at collecting 1,000 pounds of plastic bags.
If the school reaches its goal, NexTrex will reward Chapin Elementary with a Trex Bench, made from the recycled plastic, which will be placed in the school’s garden area. The garden was created by the Eaglets Making Impact Club last year, and the new bench will provide a welcoming spot for students and visitors to enjoy the space or discuss new ways to benefit the community.
To support the effort, NexTrex has provided the school with recycling bins and posters to encourage participation. A collection bin is located at the front of the school, where students, staff, parents, and community members are invited to donate plastic bags. Items accepted in the challenge include grocery bags, bread bags, reclosable Ziploc bags, bubble wrap, and dry-cleaning bags.
The school is enthusiastic about reaching the goal and is hopeful that the project will make a meaningful difference by diverting plastic waste from landfills. The Eaglets Making Impact Club and Chapin Elementary are eager to show how a small community effort can lead to big results.
“Let’s recycle beyond the bag!” says the club, as they rally the community to help achieve this important milestone in sustainability.
