A year ago, Chapin football players were emptying their lockers following a winless season.
Under new head coach Corey Helms, the Eagles made one of the better turnarounds in the Palmetto State. A 5-5 record and fourth place finish in Region 3-5A earned them a Class 5A Upper State playoff berth.
Chapin now looks to get over .500 and win its first playoff game in two years Friday against Hillcrest (4-6). It’s the first meeting between the two schools.
The Eagles are coming off a bye week after losing 31-24 in overtime to Lexington. They face a Rams’ team which has won their last three games after a 1-6 start.
Should Chapin win, it would head on the road again to face another Region 1-5A foe in J.F. Byrnes. The Rebels earned a first-round home game after winning the region.
