District Five schools elected to lead Southern Association of Student Councils in 2027 and 2028
IRMO — Chapin High School and Irmo High School International School for the Arts will make history by hosting the Southern Association of Student Councils (SASC) Annual Conference in consecutive years.
Chapin High School juniors Tillman Lominack and Greene Petty were elected student representatives for the SASC President School, earning Chapin the opportunity to host the 2027 conference.
Their campaign featured a Top Gun-inspired theme, “Taking Leadership to New Heights,” emphasizing their vision for student leadership across the South.
“We are incredibly honored and excited to have the opportunity to represent Chapin High School and serve as SASC Presidents,” Lominack and Petty said. They said they hope to make the 2027 conference an experience that inspires students to strengthen their leadership skills.
Chapin Student Government Advisor Kristen Lominack praised the students and their council for their hard work and dedication, calling the opportunity to welcome student leaders from across the South a special honor.
Irmo High School was elected the SASC President-Elect School, positioning it to host the 2028 conference. Sophomores Jay McLeod and Mills Moody will represent Irmo as the school prepares for its turn to lead the regional organization.
Their campaign used a NASA and space exploration theme, “Mission to Lead,” highlighting the importance of inspiring leadership and encouraging action among students.
“We are excited to learn from Chapin when they host next year, so that in 2028 we can showcase our school,” McLeod and Moody said.
Irmo Student Council Advisor Eric Coleman praised the students, their delegation and the school community for supporting the campaign. He said the opportunity to learn from Chapin’s 2027 conference will help Irmo prepare for a successful event in 2028.
The elections mark the first time the same school district has been selected to serve as the SASC President School in consecutive years. The achievement reflects School District Five’s commitment to student leadership and strong student government programs.
Both schools also earned awards at the conference. Chapin received two awards, including first place in School Spirit. Irmo earned first-place honors in School Service and Academic Incentive.
Founded in 1932, the Southern Association of Student Councils brings together student leaders and advisors from 15 Southern states to exchange ideas, develop leadership skills and recognize outstanding student government programs. Hosting the annual conference gives schools an opportunity to showcase their communities while welcoming student leaders from across the region.
