Spring Hill teacher earns state early-career educator award

Caroline Milhorn recognized for commitment to social studies education

IRMO — Caroline Milhorn, a social studies teacher at Spring Hill High School, has been selected to receive the 2026 South Carolina Council for the Social Studies Early Career Educator Award.

Milhorn, who is in her second year of teaching, was recognized for her dedication to effective social studies instruction. The award honors South Carolina teachers in the early years of their careers who demonstrate a commitment to social studies education.

“I feel so fortunate to work in a field where I can help guide students through their learning journeys, and I am even more excited to continue growing as an educator,” Milhorn said.

She expressed gratitude for the support of her family, friends and colleagues, particularly the fellow educators who have mentored and guided her through the challenges of her first years in the classroom.

As the award recipient, Milhorn will receive $250, membership in the National Council for the Social Studies and registration for the South Carolina Council for the Social Studies conference.

“I am so proud of Ms. Milhorn for receiving this well-deserved award,” said Melony Sanford, School District Five social studies coordinator. “Her enthusiasm for teaching social studies and the positive impact she has on students in District Five each day are a testament to her dedication as an educator.”

Milhorn will be formally recognized and presented with the award Oct. 30 at Francis Marion University.
