The Chapin football team heads on the road seeking its first win in two seasons.
Last Friday’s 41-25 loss to Lugoff-Elgin marked the Eagles’ 12th straight loss. Their last victory was against Goose Creek in the opening round of the Class 5A Division II playoffs.
Despite the defeat, Chapin had bright spots on both sides of the football. Running back Harper Ellerbee rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns and linebacker Parker Collins had a team-high 10 tackles.
Head coach Corey Helms also praised defensive back Rory Dreher for his play. The senior had two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, a blocked punt and five tackles.
With only seven players with meaningful varsity experience, Helms believes things will get better as the team gets comfortable with his system.
He also believes the Eagles need to limit their mistakes, especially in the red zone.
Chapin will play its home opener Friday at Harry Woolbright Field against Brookland-Cayce. The Bearcats are coming off a 31-13 loss to 8-time defending SCISA Class 4A champion Hammond School.
The Chapin baseball team was recognized at the Aug. 11 meeting of the Lexington County Council. The Eagles won the Class 5A Division II title last May.
VOLLEYBALL
The Lady Eagles defeated Hammond School by the scores of 3-0 on Aug. 18 and 20 to open the season with a 2-0 record.
