Despite suffering the first loss in Region 4-5A to co-leader Lexington, Chapin boys’ soccer remains in position to take the top seed into the post-season.

The Eagles still hold the tiebreaker over the Wildcats with two region games remaining this week. Their 2-point margin of victory in the first meeting was larger than the 1-1 (4-2 on PKs) result on March 14.

Chapin rebounded with a 3-0 win over River Bluff. Senior Jaden Tucker, Landon Brown and freshman Cole Keys all scored for the Eagles.

Tucker and teammate Jacob Braden both received good news over the weekend. They will close out their respective high school careers playing for their head coach Bob Taylor at the Clash of the Carolinas.

Scheduled for June 20 at the OrthoCarolina Sportsplex in Pineville, N.C., it is the nation’s only interstate All-Star soccer event.

The girls’ match will feature Chapin seniors Lila Bowers and Sydney Stoner. In last week’s 1-0 win over first-place Lexington, Bowers assisted on the lone goal scored by Laken Lane.

This was also Lexington’s first region loss of the season.

The Lady Eagles are tied with River Bluff for 2nd place in the region. Unlike the boys, they do not hold the tiebreaker based on the margin of victory in the split victories.
