For the first time in Region 4-5A play, the Chapin girls basketball team was at full strength.
Senior forward Reagan Haggard was back in action for the first time since suffering a sprained ankle against Clover on Dec. 29.
Haggard’s return timed perfectly with the Lady Eagles’ visit to The Swamp. They faced River Bluff in a varsity doubleheader that was also the WACH 57 High School Hoops Game of the Week.
With Haggard’s return, Chapin rolled to a 52-31 victory. It was the first win in Region 4-5A for the Lady Eagles.
Haggard scored nine points in her return game. Freshman guard Amoria Wright had 13 points and Sami Stephenson added 11 for the Lady Eagles.
In the boys game, Chapin fell behind as many as 18 points in the first half. Sparked by the 3-point shooting of Braydyn Francis, Reese Jolly and Adam Vandegrift, the Eagles stormed back for the 73-61 victory.
The win moved Chapin into second place behind Dutch Fork in the Region 4-5A standings. Carter Coggins scored seven of his 20 points in the final four minutes, including a 4-point play.
Reese Jolly also scored 20 points and grabbed five rebounds. Francis and Vandergrift each finished with eight points.
