Lady Eagles headed to state golf tournament final

A second-place finish at the S.C. High School League Class 5A Division II Lower State girls’ golf final in Little River earned Chapin an invitation to next week’s state final.

The Lady Eagles shot a team score of 341 to finish 13 strokes behind champion Conway. Sadie Licata (80) and Charlotte Miller (85) placed third and tied for 10th place, respectively, in the individual medals.

The tournament took place at River Hills Golf Club. The Division II final is set for Monday and Tuesday at The Hackler in Conway.

VOLLEYBALL

Chapin (18-3-1, 8-2) opened the Class 5A Division II playoffs Wednesday at home against White Knoll.

The winner travels to Lucy Beckham for the second round.

The Lady Eagles finished in second place in Region 4-5A. Both region losses came at the hands of River Bluff, which has a first-round bye.

FOOTBALL

The Eagles will play host to top-ranked and Lexington/Richland School District Five rival Irmo at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Cecil Woolbright Field.

Chapin (0-8, 0-3) seeks to snap a nine-game losing streak, while handing the Yellow Jackets (8-0, 3-0) their first loss. The Eagles’ last win in the series occurred in 2020.
