Both Chapin High School soccer teams entered Spring Valley atop the Region 4-5A standings.
On Friday, the Lady Eagles got a goal from Natalia Todaro and five saves from goalkeepers Addison Bagnal and Olivia Bradley for the 1-0 road victory over River Bluff. They improved to 4-0 on the season in region play.
The same night saw the boys team go to 3-0 in the region with the 2-1 win over River Bluff. Wyatt Jordan scored the go-ahead goal in the second half and assisted on the first goal by Elijah Vance.
SOFTBALL
Before embarking on Spring Break, the Chapin softball team visited Fort Mill for two softball games.
The Lady Eagles defeated host team Nation Ford 4-2 in the opening game last Saturday. Ella Majchrzak struck out six in five scoreless innings and had a solo home run and Andee Dircks had an RBI for Chapin.
The second game was an All-Lexington County matchup with Gray Collegiate. Reagan Haggard’s 2-run single put the Lady Eagles ahead 2-1, but the Lady War Eagles responded with 11 unanswered runs to win 12-2 in five innings.
Aspen Boulware and Kaley Anderson both homered and Madison added a 2-run single in support of winning pitcher Madison Long. She stuck out five in five innings for the victory.
BASEBALL
The Eagles are competing in the S.C. Diamond Invitational at Blythewood High School on Wednesday.
They open play against South Florence, then face Northwestern on Thursday and the Bengals on Friday. The tournament concludes on Saturday.
Following the break, Chapin closes out the regular season with three region series against Dutch Fork, White Knoll and River Bluff and a non-region home-at-home matchup with Mid-Carolina. They are 2-1 in the region following a series with Lexington.
LACROSSE
The Lady Eagles can clinch the Region 4-5A title following the break as it finishes with White Knoll on April 8 and River Bluff two nights later.
Before that, they will play host to Wando Tuesday at Cecil Woolbright Field looking to extend a 3-game winning streak. On March 28, Chapin improved to 6-0 in the region with a 21-7 win over Dutch Fork.
The boys’ team looks to clinch second place behind champion Lexington in the region with two matches left. Before the break, it held off a late rally by Dutch Fork for the 12-11 victory.
It was the second time this season the Eagles defeated the Silver Foxes by that score.
