The Chapin Police Department is announcing the arrest of two suspects from an aggravated assault that occurred at 1153 Chapin Road in the Town of Chapin, South Carolina. Chapin Police Officers arrested Bryant Hunter Sanders at his residence in Newberry shortly after the incident.
Jared Hunter Peake was later arrested in Eastland, Texas on warrants stemming from this case. Peake was extradited from Eastland, TX and was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center on October 18
th, 2023.
On September 29th, 2023, around 2:30 am, Officers responded to the 800 block of Old Lexington Hwy in reference to a victim being assaulted and needing medical treatment. Officers determined that the victim was with the suspects at 1153 Chapin Road, following a previous argument that occurred outside the Town of Chapin. The victim believed that the argument had been settled when he was violently assaulted. The suspects planned to assault the victim and did so by striking him in the head with a handgun multiple times while also landing numerous blows to his arms and body. The victim sustained multiple injuries to his face, head, arms and body, and was bleeding profusely after the assault causing him to seek emergency medical treatment. The victim was transported to Lexington Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
A thorough investigation was conducted at the scene and the first suspect was identified as Bryant Hunter Sanders. With the assistance of the Newberry Police Department, Chapin Police responded to the suspect’s home address where he was taken into custody. Sanders was charged with Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature and Criminal Conspiracy.
Throughout the course of this investigation the second suspect has been identified as Jared Hunter Peake, of Lugoff, S.C. Peake was located in Eastland, TX and arrested for Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Violent Crime and Criminal Conspiracy.
