SLED Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting in Lexington County

Lexington County, SC – The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is currently investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place on the morning of Friday, August 2, 2024, in Lexington County.

Officers from the Lexington Medical Center Department of Public Safety responded to a call at the medical center’s Emergency Department regarding a patient. Upon arrival, officers encountered a male patient armed with a handgun. During the encounter, an officer discharged their firearm, wounding the armed man. Additionally, an officer’s TASER was deployed during the incident. The male patient is currently receiving treatment for his injuries, which are not life-threatening. No law enforcement officers or Lexington Medical Center staff were injured in the incident.

SLED was requested to investigate the shooting by the Lexington Medical Center Department of Public Safety. The medical center is located at 2720 Sunset Blvd. in West Columbia.

In a press release, SLED stated, “This is an ongoing investigation. As such, no other information about the case will be disclosed by SLED at this time.”
