Grab your rod and reel, cane pole, or fly rod and a bag to pick up litter—it’s time to go Plishing! The South Carolina Wildlife Federation (SCWF) invites everyone to join their Plishing Challenge again this summer.
Plishing, a blend of the Swedish phrase “plocka upp,” meaning litter pick up, and fishing, is designed to engage the public in both fishing and environmental conservation. The Plishing Challenge encourages participants to practice catch and release fishing while helping to keep waterways clean by picking up litter.
This conservation initiative offers a way to enjoy South Carolina’s aquatic resources, promote conservation, and win prizes. The challenge is simple and fun for all ages. Once registered, participants can enter each fish they catch and each bag of litter they collect by snapping a photo or video in the app—no weighing or measuring required.
Each month, different sponsors provide prizes such as gift cards, apparel, and fishing gear. At the end of the summer, an overall winner for fish, an overall winner for litter collection, and a randomly selected winner will each receive a $500 gift card to Palmetto State Armory. Additionally, Palmetto State Armory is covering the registration cost for the first 200 participants, so register now for a chance to join for free.
Fishing and being on the water are fantastic ways to enjoy the outdoors. The health benefits of fishing include boosting your immune system, relaxation, and reducing stress. Whether you prefer to fish solo or with your family, SCWF’s Plishing Challenge provides a unique opportunity to connect with nature.
In addition to Palmetto State Armory, the Plishing Challenge is sponsored by Palmetto Pride, AFTCO, Local Boy Outfitters, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, and Angling Women. The event runs from June 1 through August 31. For more information, visit www.scwf.org/plishing.
