Ousted Nephron CEO had ties to School District Five

Lou Kennedy led pharmaceutical company since 2007 before being replaced Oct. 16

WEST COLUMBIA — Lou Kennedy is no longer CEO of Nephron Pharmaceuticals Corporation, which announced her dismissal Oct. 16 and named Haywood Miller interim CEO.

Kennedy, a co-owner of the West Columbia-based pharmaceutical company, had served as CEO since 2007. The company did not disclose a reason for her departure.

“I want to thank Lou for her leadership and her many years of service to Nephron,” said Richard Shinder, Nephron’s independent manager. “We are pleased to welcome Haywood Miller, whose operational expertise and deep familiarity of Nephron’s business makes him the right leader.”

Kennedy also had ties to Lexington-Richland School District Five. In 2022, she dedicated an outdoor learning space at Seven Oaks Elementary School in honor of her mother, Nancy Thomas Wood, who taught at the school for many years.
