Nathan Ballentine (R–Irmo/Chapin) has formally filed for reelection, setting the stage for a general election contest this fall against Democratic challenger Julie Zimmerman.
Ballentine, who has represented District 71 in the South Carolina House of Representatives since 2004, is one of the more established Republican figures in the Midlands. His district includes portions of Irmo, Chapin, and surrounding Lexington County communities. Over his tenure, he has focused on issues such as education, public safety, infrastructure, and government transparency, while also serving in various leadership and committee roles within the House.
