COLUMBIA, S.C. – Tax season can be stressful, but for many Midlands residents, help is available at no cost. The Cooperative Ministry is once again offering free tax preparation services through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program for individuals and families earning $67,000 or less annually.
The service is provided by IRS-certified volunteers who deliver high-quality tax preparation and filing assistance. In 2024, VITA volunteers prepared 7,652 returns for Midlands taxpayers.
Most VITA sites do not require an appointment, and multiple locations are available throughout the region. A full list of operating hours, site locations, and the tax documents needed can be found online at www.coopmin.org/vita.
This program helps ensure eligible taxpayers receive all the credits they qualify for—such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)—and can avoid costly tax preparation fees.
