Former Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Employee Arrested

LEXINGTON, S.C. – A former administrative employee of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department has been charged with obtaining goods under false pretenses, according to the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

Shekinah Shyann Sade Brown, 24, was arrested after turning herself in at the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department headquarters on Tuesday morning.

Sheriff Jay Koon stated that the investigation began when concerns arose over fraudulent time sheets.

“When I became aware of Ms. Brown’s alleged conduct, I referred the matter to SLED for an independent investigation,” Koon said. “There is an inherent trust that comes with working in law enforcement, and everyone must be held accountable to maintain our professionalism and the trust of our community.”

Brown, who was employed as a chemist in the department’s laboratory, had worked there since March 2023 before resigning in October 2024.

Following her arrest, Brown was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center but has since been released on a personal recognizance bond.
