Firefighters raise $50K for cancer charity

On March 28, Columbia’s annual Fire Truck Pull raised approximately $50,000 to support pediatric cancer research. The event was organized by Curing Kids Cancer, a national nonprofit dedicated to funding cures for childhood cancer.

The Columbia-Richland Fire Department provided fire engines and personnel for the event, which featured 27 competing teams.

Members of the Irmo Fire District claimed the top prize for fastest pull time. Competing as “Irmo Fire Strongmen Pulling for Logan,” the team pulled a fire engine down a stretch of road in just 17.68 seconds.

All proceeds from the event will benefit pediatric cancer research at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital-Midlands.
