Lexington-Richland School District Five has named longtime administrator Dr. Thomas Turner the new principal at Harbison West Elementary School. He will replace Randy Norman who is retiring at the end of the school year.
Turner has served as assistant principal at Caughman Road Elementary School since 2019. Prior to that job, he served as an assistant principal at Sanders Middle School. He has also served as a math interventionist, and in the classroom as a fourth and fifth grade teacher. He was approved for his new post during a school board meeting on May 8.
“This is my dream job, in a dream school, supported by a dream district,” Turner said. “I am truly humbled by this opportunity to serve the Lexington-Richland School District Five community. I am looking forward to meeting the staff, students, parents and community members that support Harbison West Elementary School. Together as one, we will carry the spirit of being a HERO into our next chapter of excellence in education!”
Turner earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Benedict College. Turner earned his master’s degree in educational administration and his doctor of leadership in educational administration from Capella University.
“Dr. Turner is a passionate leader who strives for excellence for all students,” said School District Five Superintendent Dr. Akil E. Ross, Sr. “Dr. Turner brings a wealth of administrative and classroom experience that will benefit the students and staff at Harbison West Elementary. He is a proven leader with successful results in academics, school culture and community relations. We look forward to continued excellence at Harbison West Elementary School under his leadership.”
