IRMO – Lexington-Richland School District Five has named Allen Knotts as Interim Chief Operations Officer. He replaces Gerald Gary, who is leaving the district to become superintendent of the Sumter School District.
Knotts has served the district since August 2022 as Director of Facilities. Prior to joining District Five, he was director of engineering at University Health Care System, where he oversaw engineering and plant operations for multiple facilities totaling more than 1,000 beds. He also held leadership roles as Director of Engineering at McLeod Health and as an engineering operations manager at Palmetto Health in Columbia. During his time there, Knotts contributed to the construction of Prisma Health Baptist Parkridge.
In addition to his civilian career, Knotts serves as Acting First Sergeant of the G6 with the South Carolina National Guard, based at Joint Force Headquarters.

Knotts earned an associate degree in applied science from Midlands Technical College, a bachelor of science in technology management from Excelsior College, and a master of business administration from Western Governors University. He is also a certified Journeyman Electrician and MGI Health Care Electrician.

Ross Sr.. “His experience, collaborative approach, and deep understanding of district operations make him well prepared to step into the role of Interim Chief Operations Officer. I am confident he will continue to make a positive impact as he helps lead our operational efforts in support of our students, staff, and school communities.”
