District Five Dance Teams Shine at State Championship

Dance teams from Lexington-Richland School District Five made their mark at the South Carolina Dance Association (SCDA) State Championship, earning multiple state titles and top awards. The competition, held on February 22 at USC Aiken, showcased the incredible talent and dedication of student dancers from Chapin Middle, Chapin High, Dutch Fork Middle, and Dutch Fork High.

Chapin High School Takes Home Titles

The Chapin High School Dance Team dominated the competition, earning state titles in Varsity Pom and Junior Varsity (JV) Pom. This marks the fourth time Chapin has been crowned Varsity Pom State Champions.

“These state titles are a testament to the perseverance, dedication, and unwavering commitment to their team and each other,” said Chapin Varsity Dance Head Coach Brittany Orr. “I couldn’t be prouder of these young women for their unity, passion, and relentless hard work every step of the way.”

Dutch Fork Dazzlers Claim Multiple Wins

The Dutch Fork High School Dazzlers also had an outstanding performance, securing state titles in Varsity Jazz, JV Hip Hop, and JV Jazz. Additionally, they placed second in Varsity Hip Hop.

“I am so proud of every single Dazzler for their work on and off the floor this season,” said Dutch Fork Dazzlers Dance Head Coach Maddie Thiemann. “From being finalists at Nationals to immediately shifting focus to a state title, these young women have worked hard, adapted to changes, encouraged one another, and overcome obstacles. They truly embodied our team mantra: the only way through is together.”

A Community of Support

Chapin Dance Board President Ashley Summers praised the athletes and their coaches for their dedication to the sport.

“These dancers put their entire heart and soul into this amazing program, and it shows on the dance floor year after year,” Summers said. “We are so incredibly proud of all of our teams, and we truly have the best coaches in the state. We can’t wait to see this program continue to grow.”

With another championship season in the books, District Five dance teams have proven once again that they are among the best in South Carolina.
