Chapin’s American Legion Post 193’s “Busy Month of May”

By Tom Yeoman

May 2025 is another busy month for Chapin American Legion post 193, their Auxiliary, and the Legion Riders.

Every Monday morning the Breakfast Crew of Post 193 offers a “Veterans Only” breakfast at 8:00 a.m. for Post members and local veterans for the low price of $6 (first visit is free).  The last several Monday’s we’ve been feeding over 90 veterans. All veterans are welcome, and you need not be a member of the American Legion. *There will be no breakfast on Memorial Day (5/26), we will all be at the Chapin Town Hall for the Memorial Day Ceremony.

Monthly Bingo is every 1st Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m.at the Chapin Town Hall.  This is open to the public.

We recently elected new officers who are involved planning for the next year and will take their positions during a ceremony to be held during our June meeting.

Saluting those who served:  Your American Legion Post regularly buries veterans whose remains have been left “unclaimed.”  On the 9th of May we honored the service of three Previously Unclaimed Veterans In conjunction with SC Coroners Offices, Richland County Sheriff’s Department, Chapter 193 Legion Riders, SC Patriot Guard Riders, American Legion Posts from around the area, Fort Jackson cemetery, the VFW Honor Guard , over 100 unclaimed veterans have been laid to rest with dignity with their veteran family for their “final formation” at Fort Jackson.

We held a very successful Blood drive this past Monday on the 11th of May! Many thanks to everyone that came in and donated the gift of life.

Pride in the Flag:  On Thursday May 22nd, look for veterans placing American Flags around our town of Chapin.   Should you want to volunteer and assist in placing flags in our Down town area contact 1st Vice Commander at 1stvicecdr@americanlegionpost193.org.

Progress continues on our new building with land being cleared, a pavilion built (which is open for rent) and foundations poured, but there is more work to be done, so on Friday May 23rd Chapin American Legion Post 193 will be conducting a “Boot Drive” to raise funds for our new building.

Everybody loves a patriotic ceremony, so put on your Red, White, and Blue and join us on Monday, May 26th at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapin Town Hall where your local veterans and community leaders will lead the annual Town of Chapin Memorial Day Ceremony.  All are invited!
