Chapin teams open region with victories

The Chapin softball team opened Region 4-5A play in strong fashion.

The Lady Eagles shut out Dutch Fork 10-0 in five innings.

It was a scoreless game through three innings. Chapin broke the game open with six runs in the third inning, starting with an RBI single from Nicole Stockwell.

With two outs, Savannah Stockwell belted a 2-run single to make it 3-0. Reagan O’Mara and Reagan Haggard followed with back-to-back doubles and Haggard scored on an error.

In the top of the fifth, Brynly Pigate scored Nicole Stockwell with a double. After Savannah Stockwell reached on an error and O’Meara walked, Haggard cleared the bases with a double.

Parker Prusator closed out her three-hit shutout with a scoreless fifth inning for the win.

Chapin resumes region play Friday at Lexington.

Baseball

Charlie Todd’s walk off RBI single in the eighth inning gave the Eagles a 5-4 victory over Dutch Fork Tuesday.

It was the Region 4-5A opener for the Eagles, who faced the Silver Foxes again Thursday in Irmo.

Down 4-0 in the sixth inning, Chapin got on the board with a leadoff home run by Caden Reeves. Todd and Bobby Gummere opened the seventh with singles and both scored on Reeves’ double.

Campbell Todd tied the game with an RBI groundout to force extra innings. After Griff Harper retired Dutch Fork in order in the Top 8th, the Eagles loaded the bases and won on Charlie Todd’s hit.

Soccer

The Chapin girls have posted six victories this season by shutout.

The Eagles are riding a four-game scoreless streak. They opened Region 4-5A play with a 6-0 win over Lexington on March 14.

Kat Haigler and Avery Stoner both scored two goals and Vera Vega and Reid Staley each added a goal.

On Tuesday, the Eagles blanked Lexington 2-0 with goals scored by Haigler and Stoner. Chapin will play host to River Bluff Friday at Cecil Woolbright Field.

In boys action, Chapin completed the Tuesday sweep with a 3-0 win over the Silver Foxes. Eli Vance scored two goals, Jalen tucker added a goal and goalkeepers Cooper Hughes and Anthony Lopresti combined for six saves.

Lacrosse

Defending Class 5A champion Chapin girls are riding a 3-game winning streak.

The Lady Eagles rebounded from a loss to Oceanside Collegiate with a 15-9 win over Fort Mill on March 6.

It was a rematch of last year’s state final won by Chapin.

Brooke Holmes scored five goals and Mia Phelps added three in the victory.

A week later, Chapin opened play in District 4 with a 32-1 romp over White Knoll.

Elle Wright scored five goals and Brianne Fulcher added four as five players scored three or more goals.

On Monday, Chapin defeated Blythewood 17-4 to improve to 2-0 in the region.

The Chapin boys are 2-0 in the District 4 division following wins over White Knoll (16-9) on March 13 and Blythewood (15-1) this past Monday.
