Chapin seeks first win against Spring Valley

Chapin football is back at Cecil Woolbright Field Friday seeking its first win of the season.

The Eagles play host to Spring Valley (1-1), who snapped their 24-game losing streak in Week 0. Chapin (0-2) is seeking its first win of the season after back-to-back losses to Catawba Ridge and A.C. Flora.

Despite the slow start, head coach Ryan Cole says optimism is still high on the Eagles.

I think we are looking forward to correcting mistakes this week as a team,” Cole said. “The players are focused on getting better this week. They have a great attitude and are looking forward to getting back to work. We did some things better offensively last week. We have to take care of the football on offense. We have to limit mistakes on defense and create more turnovers.”

Chapin has yet to score a touchdown this season and committed four turnovers. It has been outscored 78-6 and only amassed 251 total yards in those losses.

“We need to limit the number of turnovers,” Cole said. “If we take care of the football, it will give us more opportunities to score points.”

Linebacker Parker Collins leads the team in tackles (17), followed by Caleb Davis (15) and Palmer Flake (11).

Spring Valley is coming off a 41-9 to Lower Richland after snapping its losing streak. Cole believes a fast start is “important” to build up positive momentum.

“That momentum will transfer throughout all phases of the game,” he said. “We have yet to play to our potential. I look forward to seeing the players do that.”
