Chapin High School varsity cheerleader Taylor Graves has been named the South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) Division 5A Cheerleader of the Year.
“I am beyond grateful to be receiving this award,” Graves said. “This is such an honor as I always looked up to the girls who got this award in the past, so for me to be that person now is overwhelming. I’m thankful to everyone who has encouraged and pushed me to become deserving of this award.”
Chapin High School varsity cheer won the SCHSL Division 5A state championship on November 18, 2023, at the Colonial Life Arena. The win was the 17th state title for Chapin Cheerleading.
Graves, who is a senior, has been a part of the Chapin Varsity Cheerleading squad for five years. Vicki Williams has been her coach and said Taylor is a huge support to her teammates.
“Taylor proved as Captain, she could lead the team to win another State Championship,” Williams said. “I am so proud of her hard work and commitment to putting excellence in the mat. Taylor’s leadership served as a positive role model encouraging others to believe in themselves to achieve the goal of becoming a champion.”
Chapin High School principal Ed Davis said, “I am so proud of Taylor! Her hard work and commitment has led to her being named the South Carolina 5A Cheerleader of the Year. This is an awesome achievement for Taylor, her team, her coaches and Chapin High School! We aRe CHAPIN!”
