Chapin Cheer vies for another State Title

By Thomas Grant, Jr.

Since 2020, Class 5A competitive cheer title has been a “hot potato” exchange between Chapin and Lexington.

Each school has taken turns winning the trophy, with the Lady Eagles winning last year.

This Saturday at Colonial Life Arena, the two schools will compete in separate divisions.

While Lexington is in Division I with River Bluff, Chapin leads the way in Division II. In enters the final having won the qualifier held Nov. 12 at Spring Valley High School by 11 points over St. James.

Irmo also qualified for the 12-team Division II final by placing 11th.

Chapin looks to add to its state record title total of 17. Head coach Vicki Williams is also seeking her 17th state title at the helm.
