Chapin boys headed to England after securing region title

By Thomas Grant Jr.

Before heading overseas for Spring Break, the Chapin boys soccer team clinched the Region 4-5A title.

The Eagles defeated River Bluff 3-1 for their 11th straight victory. Fittingly on Senior Night, Braydon Sipe accounted for one of the goals and Justin Tucker had two assists.

Goalkeepers Cooper Hughes and Anthony Lopresti combined for five saves to help Chapin improve to 14-5 overall, 9-0 in the region.

Following the trip, team members departed for Great Britain for a week of soccer tourism. Along with training at Queens Park Rogers and Tottenham, the players and coaches visited Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The trip will also include attendance Thursday at the UEFA Europa League quarterfinal match between Manchester United and Lyon.

Before the break, the top-ranked Lady Eagles moved a step closer to clinching the region. They routed Irmo 11-0 as nine players scored at least one goal.

Kat Haigler, Avery Stoner, and Jenn Kujawa each had two goals. The win for Chapin (13-2, 8-1) was the 100th for head coach Chad Bridges.

The Eagles lead Lexington and River Bluff by one game. They will close out region play April 21 at home against White Knoll.
