COLUMBIA, S.C. – The SC Jazz Masterworks Ensemble will feature renowned pianist, bandleader, and 10-time Grammy Award winner Arturo O’Farrill in its concert Afro-Latin Jazz Excursion on April 11 at 7:30 p.m.
The performance will take place at Harbison Theatre.
O’Farrill is widely recognized for his influence on contemporary Latin jazz and Afro-Cuban music. Born in Mexico City and raised in New York, he draws from a rich musical heritage as the son of legendary Cuban arranger and bandleader Chico O’Farrill. His work blends Afro-Latin rhythms with innovative jazz composition.
“Arturo is one of a kind—one of the best Afro-Cuban jazz musicians of all time,” said Robert Gardiner, founder and executive director of the SC Jazz Foundation. “This extraordinary fusion of musical styles is something that sets this performance apart.”
O’Farrill is also the founder and artistic director of the Afro Latin Jazz Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to the performance, education, and preservation of Afro-Latin music.
Tickets for the April 11 concert are on sale now, with prices ranging from $60 to $70 depending on seating. For more information and a full schedule of events, visit www.SCJazz.org.
