American Legion selects Girls State delegates

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 193, Chapin selected 9 delegates to attend the 76th annual session of Palmetto Girls State to be held at Presbyterian College, June 11 ā€“ 17.

The delegates are: Cora Diimmler, Morgan Kinder, Destany Doby, Taylor Bulwinkle, McEwen Gore, Katelyn Hill, Laura Perla, Abby Edwards, and Katelyn Elsasser. The delegates nominated are selected from Spring Hill High School and Chapin High School.

Girls State is a program developed and sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary.

The program is conducted across the nation and is an exercise in government, Americanism, and citizenship. The delegates nominated are leaders in their school and community. Each delegate receives a $340 scholarship from the Auxiliary to attend the weeklong session which culminates at the State House.

Two outstanding delegates from each ALA Girls State program are selected to attend ALA Girls Nation in Washington DC. The delegates nominated locally go through a selection process by the Auxiliary which includes a speech as well as an interview.

The delegates will be honored at a reception July 20 at the American Legion Post 193. The young ladies will come back and share their experience at Palmetto Girls State.
