County offers $185 stipend for workers who complete training and serve on Election Day
COLUMBIA — Richland County is seeking additional election workers to help staff polling locations for the Nov. 3 statewide general election.
Interested residents must complete a mandatory three-hour training session. Those who complete the training and work one day will receive a $185 stipend.
Nearly 600 people have completed training since Oct. 5, but the county needs about twice that number to efficiently operate all polling locations.
“Democracy is not just a right we hold – it is a responsibility we share,” said Travis Alexander, director of Richland County Voter Registration and Elections. “Honor our civic duty. Serve our community. Become an election worker.”

Early voting and election information
Early voting for the Nov. 3 election runs Oct. 19-31, with polling locations open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The county encourages residents to vote early to avoid potentially long lines on Election Day.
Richland County also urges voters to rely on official government channels, recognized election authorities and reputable news outlets for accurate information about voting procedures, candidates and election processes.
The county is addressing false claims that writing on a ballot automatically disqualifies it. Although election workers should not write or make marks on a voter’s ballot, the county says a ballot will still be scanned and the voter’s selections counted according to established procedures if such marking occurs.
