The Chapin football team is on a roll.
Last Friday’s 51-0 rout of Airport was its first shutout win since 2023 against Mid-Carolina by a 63-0 score. In winning the “Battle of the Eagles”, Chapin also posted its first 3-game winning streak since 2024.
“Each week is a 1-game season,” head coach Cory Helms said. “That’s been our mind set all along.”
Junior quarterback Tyler Black completed 15-19 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns, both to Anderson Stutts. For the season, Black has thrown for 686 yards and six touchdowns.
“Our region is very talented at quarterback, but I definitely think he is making a good case with how he has been playing,” said Helms about Black’s standing among quarterbacks in Region 3-5A. “He’s been running the offense efficiently, protecting the ball, making the easy throws and stretching the field vertically.”
Charlie Black rushed for 100 yards for the second time this season to go with two scores.
Up next for Chapin (3-1) is a home game against winless Spring Valley. The Vikings (0-4) are coming off a 34-12 loss at Lexington last Saturday and are seeking to snap a 12-game losing streak.
The Eagles close out non-region play with two straight in-county road games against Gilbert and River Bluff.
