The Lexington County Blowfish closed out the 2026 season on a losing note.
Their 4-0 season-ending loss to the Forest City Owls was their eighth straight. It’s the longest losing streak for Lexington County since 2022 and it finished with an 18-29 record.
Forest City finished second in the West Division. It opened the Petitt Cup Sunday with a 3-2 win over Asheboro ZooKeepers to reach the West Division final against the Macon Bacon.
Despite the loss, the Blowfish and their fans provided a positive note to end the summer. The team held its annual online jersey auction to benefit charitable causes in Lexington County.
This year’s team jersey theme was tied to the 250th celebration of the United States of America. The Blowfish raised $6,771 from the auction and co-owner Bill Shanahan will share the names of the benefiting organizations at a future date.
In another positive note, the Blowfish completed their first season with the newly-installed AstroTurf with no home rainouts. The lone postponement at Lexington County Baseball Stadium was due to lightning, compared to three road rainouts.
This weekend, new University of South Carolina head coach Kevin Schnall will hold a baseball camp at the stadium.
