Students earn college certificates

School District Five has recognized students who earned academic certificates from Midlands Technical College (MTC) through the district’s Dual Enrollment program during the 2025–2026 school year.

The students successfully completed an 18-credit-hour sequence of college coursework while still in high school, earning credentials that carry full academic credit and are eligible for financial aid through FAFSA.

Academic certificates through MTC are designed to provide students with a focused foundation of coursework that prepares them to enter careers and continue their education — without the longer timeline of a traditional degree program. Completing a certificate while in high school gives students a meaningful head start and demonstrates the kind of drive and commitment that will serve them well beyond graduation.

“We are incredibly proud of each student who earned a certificate this year,” said Dr. Tim Swick, Dual Enrollment Program Coordinator for Lexington-Richland School District Five. “This is not easy work. Dual enrollment courses are designed to mirror the rigor of college-level academics, and succeeding in them requires a level of independence and self-motivation that many students are still developing. The students we are recognizing today rose to that challenge — managing their time, advocating for themselves, and producing college-quality work while still in high school. That kind of preparation is invaluable, and it will serve them well from their very first day on a college campus.”

The following students are recognized for completing their certificates. Students marked with an asterisk (*) completed their certificate requirements in the Fall 2025 semester.

General Studies Certificate: Yara Abusamra, Amelia Cromer, Camden McCleod, Kaylee Mixon*, Lily Ryan, Mason Thomas (Chapin High), Cyrus Farris, T’Ariyah Henderson, Julian Kotwica, Anna Murphy, Peyton Sims (Dutch Fork High), Caylee Alexander, Anaiah Fultz, Bailey Foy*, McKensie Gaymon, Alicia Moore (Irmo High), Vitalina Lyashevych, Matooka Nasser (FIVE), Public Service Preparation Certificate: Ryleigh McCree (Dutch Fork High).

Students who complete a certificate through the School District Five Dual Enrollment program are invited to participate in MTC’s commencement ceremony and are eligible to wear a graduation cord at their high school ceremony.
