Wrestling playoffs suspended due to weather

By Thomas Grant Jr.

The second-seeded Chapin wrestling team will have to wait longer on its first-round Class 5A Division I second-round opponent.

On Friday, the S.C. High School League released a memo in which it temporarily suspended the team playoffs. It was scheduled to begin last Saturday with the first and second rounds taking place Monday.

Chapin is scheduled to face the Socastee/West Florence winner.

Commissioner Jerome Singleton cited the severe inclement weather which swept through portions of the state this weekend.

“We will continue to monitor the weather and its aftermath to determine when the wrestling playoffs will safely resume,” he stated. “The safety and well-being of our student-athletes, coaching staff, and spectators is one of our main focuses.”

During the suspension, schools are not allowed to make up any regular-season matches. The league will provide an updated playoff schedule when its available.
